Yesterday, I finally got my beta tester Swype version. It doesn’t include a French pack and it is QWERTY – not AZERTY – but this is wonderful, it works great on my Nexus One. The first time I tested that keyboard was few months ago on a Galaxy S – Swype is pre loaded on those phones. I knew it before and wanted to test it. I have to say that I really liked the concept, it allows users to go significantly faster. However, on a screen as big as the Galaxy S’ I thought it was quite difficult to use: You have sometimes to go from the middle of the screen to the bottom. Of course, the user’s experience depends on the conditions of use: when You have dried fingers or sticky hands, it is not that easy to slip your finger on the screen. It’s quite weired but true, with a bit of humidity it is very nice to use.
So I got it on my Nexus One. What I like about it is the fact that I can now type with only one finger. It is very useful in the subway or when You walk. I also like the UI. Okay, a certain time of adaptation is necessary to feel good about it. And sometimes I prefer classic keyboards. I still use Swiftkey – which I also love, but which is slower I think – beside Swype, for French typing and for dry weathers!
