Alright, yesterday We got to see the new Toshiba’s Places, a software – installed on a TNT Tuner – which allows You to interact with your friends, through social networks and emails, but also to browse the web – well sort of: You can access to some services like Dailymotion or Flickr – and watch TV, movies and pictures, all that from your couch and your TV. It’s also featuring some VOD and some other services – You can for instance order food!. The interface is quite nice and it is very enjoyable and easy to use. It is very smooth and fast. You can access to your computers and HDD’s contents, through UPNP. And the interface will – soon – be working through the web, on a browser. Apparently it will only be available in France for now, which is quite weird… It is apparently a Toshiba France’s initiative. But I truly believe that it will be developed for more countries soon, cause most of brands have now that kind of interface in their HDTV.

Even if the concept is nice, and not new at all by the way, it has some limitations: the tuner box can’t record – from what I know – and it has not the power of Windows Media softwares, directly connected to a computer and to Windows itself. But it is certainly a nice feature when You buy an expensive HDTV from Toshiba!
