Yesterday was a big day for Microsoft. This huge company was launching its Windows Phone 7 OS, after almost 6 months of speculations, rumors and discussions. I have to admit that I was quite skeptical about this new OS version – which is actually almost a brand new mobile OS -, even regarding early previews and demonstrations. But at the end Microsoft created something very interesting. Will this OS be successful? I think so. Why? First, cause Microsoft had very good partners for that launch: HTC, Samsung and LG were all involved and created some new amazing handsets for that occasion. I think this is already a big success. The HTC’s new devices look really nice and are – hardware wise – very close to their Android brothers. But the second big success for Microsoft is the UI. WP7 is featuring most of the best functionalities available on mobiles – even copy and paste will be incorporated next year. From my point of view, Microsoft watched a lot what Apple and Google did with their OSes and They created something in the middle, with their services at the center of this ecosystem. This is another big point: even if You hate Windows and Microsoft’s services and products, You know that those services are powerful, widely used and vast. The office suit for instance is a big argument. Maybe WP7 won’t be totally perfect for its launch, it surely won’t, but with the energy that Microsoft put into the project, I truly believe that this OS will be a success and will evolve positively.
