During almost a week, We had a LG’s Optimus One at home. This Android device is a mid-range affordable smartphone – it will be sold almost free with a 2 years contract here in France. It is running Froyo, it has a Qualcom 600mhz core, a 3,2″ LCD touchscreen, a 3 MP camera, wifi 802.11b/g, GPS, and Bluetooth. Basically, it has everything a modern smartphone needs. But for that price, is that phone good? Well yes! I’m quite surprised, cause the last LG phone that I used was an old Viewty that my sister own, and those phones are ancients. And modern LG’s phones are not always great… But the Optimus One is almost as good as my Nexus One, for a very low price (around 250€ contract free). So yeah, it is not as appealing as current super expensive smartphones: it is made of plastic, and it looks quite ugly, the camera is bad, the screen is not eyes blowing and the skin that LG developed over Android is not really appealing. But You know, for that price… I think it is one of the best phone of its kind. The physical buttons are efficient and nice to use – way better than the N1′s capacitive buttons -, Froyo is very nice to use on a simple device like this one – it is almost as good as stock Froyo, but with a light skin over it – and at the end that phone complete most of the current smartphones’s tasks very efficiently, and I think this is very important! My main complains about it: the LG/Orange skin and apps that were installed with Froyo and the design of that device – really badly designed. So again, if You’re looking for a cheap Android smarthpone, and that You don’t really care about the sex appeal of your phone, this is the current ultimate choice!
