Napoléon Bonaparte (1769 – 1821) is a famous dude, You won’t deny that fact. But in the US and moreover in UK, He is known as an heartless ruler, who destroyed and killed thousand and thousand of men to build his empire. Well all those facts are true, except that He was a great soldier and a great leader. In 1799, exactly 10 years after the French revolution, He made a coup-d’etat and became ruler. He then named himself ”the French’s emperor”, the first – and actually only – emperor of France. Well He had some reasons do become an emperor: first He wanted to stay ruler in France all his life and then He started a huge campaign in Europe – under the French revolution impulse – and conquered a lot of lands.
In 1789, the palace of Versailles has been deserted, the French monarchy was over in 1792 and the king was held in Paris – He has been executed in 1793. Versailles has been sacked and was in a bad shape. When Napoléon became ruler and then emperor, He thought about going to Versailles, but He decided to go somewhere else. Anyway, in Paris You can see, on Le louvre but also on bridges , many “N”, symbols of Napoléon Irst’s empire. Well in Versailles You can also see a lot of signs showing that Napoléon is important in Our history (I think they’re quite recent).
Take a look at Our pictures:
“Napoleon Irst, The French’s emperor in 1804 and king of Italy in 1808″
The room where all those paintings are in Versailles.
Napoleon giving some eagles to his victorious army.
A very famous painting, showing Napoleon and his wife in Notre Dame of Paris, being sacred emperor and empress, by Napoleon himself.
